We had my brother-in-laws family this year for Christmas. They have 2 little girls that are in love with American Girl dolls, so I decided to make matching outfits for them and their dolls.
The doll skirts were so little compared to the girls skirts.
*for those interested, an American Girl doll’s waist is 12″ and the length is 5″. I just used these dimensions, adding 1/4″ to the top of the skirt and length of the waistband for the seam allowance when I connected them. I also added an extra 1/4″ to the length of the skirt for a teeny tiny hem.
For the waistbands, I just used the same method that I do in my Maxi Skirt, except I didn’t make the band as wide because I didn’t want it to fold down. I also made ties for the girls by sandwiching the ties in between the waistbands when I sewed them together. (make sure the ties are both pointing toward the center of the skirt when you sew them. That way when you flip the waistband right-side out, the ties will be pointing out in the right directions)
For the doll’s skirts I just made mini bows and glued them to the front
It was so fun to see their reactions when they opened the gifts. One of these days I’ll get a picture of them in their skirts with their dolls.
I also gave my mom and SIL Rachel cardigans.
