NYFW DAY 1

If you follow me on Instagram, you got a few glances into my trip to New York Fashion Week last week.  Now that I’ve settled in back home, I can’t wait to share my trip with you!  The first day I was out there was one of the busiest days of my life.  No exaggeration.  I can’t believe I was able to back so much into one day.

The morning started out with my first fashion show.  Seeing a runway show during NYFW has been on my ultimate bucket list for quite some time.  I got to experience it all with Abby, who was sent by TRESemmé as their official hair blogger (have you seen her five strand braid?  she practiced on me and whipped out the most intricate braid in about a minute. she’s crazy good)

We got to see the BCBG show, and it was everything.  There is so much excitement inside a tent during a show.  The music, the lighting, the people.  The show was full of beautiful flowing maxi dresses, light pastel blues, peaches, and whites, and straight natural hair all parted in the middle.  Brilliant.

After the show, we grabbed a cab and raced over to Teri Jon headquarters for a fitting.  Teri Jon sponsored my trip to NYFW and I couldn’t be more grateful to them.  Their studio alone is worth it’s own blog post (a full tour coming next week).  Racks and racks of gorgeous dresses.  It was so fun getting to try on their beautiful dresses to wear to the week’s various events, shows, and photo shoots.  Not only are their dresses impeccable quality,  but I had so many beautiful options to choose from that covered my shoulders and came to my knees.  Modesty plays a really big role in how I dress. But I always say that am attracted to clothing that is beautiful and well designed, that happens to be modest.  Clothing that doesn’t look like the sleeves were just slapped on as an afterthought.  Teri Jon delivers just that.  I wore a beautiful sapphire dress from them a few weeks ago, and also listed some of my favorites from their site.  I can’t wait to show you the dresses I chose for NYFW!

(check back tomorrow for all the details of my outfit, along with a tutorial on how to make my skirt!)

After the fitting, I raced across town to AOL’s headquarters to speak on their NYFW Build Event Series.  They partnered with Stylist, and I was part of a panel of fashion bloggers talking about how fashion blogging has changed the face of Fashion Week.  (check out the full interview below).  After the interview, we got to relax and enjoy a breathtaking view at the Stylist after party on the rooftop of The Mondarian Soho.
