The sneaker trend came just in time for skirts, dresses, and warmer weather! I’m so excited for all the ways I can throw together a look with sneakers this spring and summer. My current favorite is dressing down an otherwise dressed up look with some cute sneakers. I love the casual feel it lends to the look for days when I want to give my feet a break from heels and sandals.
The key to this trend is balancing the top and the bottom of the look so you add both style and comfort. I always make sure not to go too “bottom heavy” when choosing a pair of shoes with a skirt or dress. Think lighter colored sneakers (some black shoes sometimes look a little bit clunky, and they can end up taking away from the rest of your outfit). I also look for shoes that are a little bit narrower for looks like this. I love my New Balance sneakers for this reason, and Converse are another great shoe for adding to skirts and dresses. They add that dressed down look effortlessly, and they keep the attention on the outfit as a whole.
I’ve put together some of my favorite sneakers for adding to skirts and dresses below. If you’ve never added sneakers to a dressed up look it can feel a little awkward at first, especially if you’re used to wearing yours for more casual and athletic purposes. But I’ve found a bunch of sneakers that are both feminine and delicate (as well as the more sporty sneakers like I’m wearing) that I promise you’ll love with your skirts and dresses!
