With summer in full swing now, trends are gravitating more and more towards comfortable, loose summer styles. With that comes more oversized tops and pants. Wide leg pants are getting so much attention this summer, and after finding these chambray pants, I totally get why. They are so comfortable and easy to wear all day, but even with their loose fit they still look put together when paired with the right top. I’m also loving these navy wide leg pants that would look so cute with more of a simple white top, like this one.

Like any outfit, there are definite ways of styling wide-leg pants and oversized tops together that works to make the look visually appealing and stylish. You might think that “wide leg” pant would make you look..well..wider, but if they are done right, they can actually be very flattering! When the fabric is falling naturally down your leg as opposed to being super tight, it lets the eye see a slight outline of the leg, making them appear thinner. While I love a good pair of skinny jeans, sometimes I feel more confident in these loose fitting pants. Here are a few tips to make this trend look effortless and comfortable, without feeling sloppy:

  • Proportionate looks make the difference when it comes to looking put together. The sleeves of my white top are wide and ruffled, but the shirt drapes closer to my body because it’s not a stiff material, so the proportions work and don’t look too wide when paired with the pants.
  • If you’re going to pair a wide leg trouser with an embellished top, make sure the embellishment is on the sleeves or the top of the shirt to break up the wideness of the pants. On my top, the ruffle detail is on the sleeves.
  • Make this look your own by finding a top that fits you well, even when it’s oversized. Not all oversized fits are made the same and work for everyone. You can always play around with slightly tucking in your top to see if that helps with more oversized tops.

This look is all about being comfortable and casual, while still looking put together. If you haven’t tried a pair of wide-leg trousers like this chambray pair, I highly recommend them. They are light and breezy, and they make dressing casually for the summer heat so easy!
