I am on a big blazer kick recently. Velvet, oversized, knit, formal, casual, you name it. But I simply cannot pass up a good blazer with gold buttons, and this navy and white striped blazer with gold buttons had my name written all over it. If I worked in a more formal office, this blazer would be on heavy rotation! I like to dress it down with distressed jeans, but I am in love with the combo of these wide leg trousers with it. It’s such a great look for an afternoon of meetings or for a work presentation. Modcloth has had some of the cutest blazers I’ve seen while online shopping. This one is a comfy knit stretch, so it would be easy to wear all day long, and it runs true to size. I also like the mod twist it has with no lapels. It’s a true wardrobe classic. I might even pair this with a cute navy dress and heels for church one of these days. These cute trousers are from Modcloth as well; I can’t believe the gems I have found there lately! They get new arrivals almost every day, so it’s fun to check in to see what is new every few weeks.

Here are a few random things that have been on my mind:

THREE THINGS

1. This weekend we spent hours and hours unpacking boxes from our garage. Like…hours. We got so much accomplished, but it’s kind of depressing to look at all the boxes still in the garage and know how much more we have to go to be completely unpacked. Not a day goes by that I don’t thank my lucky starts for every square foot of our new place, but man…moves are exhausting, aren’t they?!

2. We finished the first book of Harry Potter with the boys last week, and they loved it! If you saw on my stories, I threw a little “Harry Potter feast” with the kids on Friday night. I basically went to Trader Joes and grabbed lots of fun finger foods and semi healthy pre-packaged dinners that would be easy to make. I draped our dining room table in gold plastic table cloth and added red flags and streamers for Gryffindor house, and I had the boys each decorate a big sheet of white poster board that we hung up for decorations. I had someone ask me if I was going to do a blog post on my dinner. Honestly, there are so many cuter and more put together Harry Potter themed parties all over pinterest! I just threw this together only for my kids. I knew they would enjoy it, and it was so nice to not stress about the food and decor being picture perfect! I let them help and decorate how they wanted, and they loved it.

A few of you messaged me about what we ate for dinner and what I called each item, so here is a list of what we did:

  • Pigs in Invisibility Cloaks – mini hotdogs wrapped in puff pastries
  • Hagrid Hash – chopped up sweet potatoes sautéed with kosher salt and pepper
  • Herbology Salad – pre-packaged salad
  • Wizard Wands – Long chocolate wafer straws
  • Meat Pies – pre-made and pretty dang good! I just baked them in the oven
  • Butterbeer – Just normal root beer, but I poured it in a cute cauldron and added dry ice. The boys went crazy over it!
  • Every Flavor Jellybeans – Chocolate covered sunflower seeds in cute colors

(I got all of the food items at Trader Joes!)

3. I am trying my hardest to get up earlier to do my workouts, but I just keep failing! I go to bed earlier now (around 11), I lay my workout clothes on the floor, I have a good audio book or podcast in mind for the morning, and I set multiple alarms and I still can’t get up! Any secret tips for how to get my butt out of bed earlier? I feel so much better when I start my day off getting up early!

  1. Styling very tasteful and I would like to get dressed like that. You look wonderful in striped pattern, love how to styled this looks so modern way.

  2. Put your alarm across the room so you have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. Then don’t let yourself get back in bed. It’s hard!!

  3. You gotta read this amazing book called The Miracle Morning. It’s a super short read, but life changing. I was just like you with all the alarms and never getting up. Now I’m excited to get up and get up on the first alarm!!!

  4. I wake up at 5am 5-6 days a week to exercise. It takes 21 times to make something a habit…so you just need to force yourself to roll out of bed! Now I don’t think twice about it.

I also go to bed around 9:30, so if you’re waking up at 6 then you may want to try and shoot for a 10/10:30 bedtime!

  5. My husband has the same getting out of bed problem. One thing that really helped him was having lights that were set on a timer so they turned on automatically at 5 am. I personally have notice if he doesn’t get up with his first alarm it is a lot less likely for him to get up at all.

  6. I’ve heard it suggested that if you are trying to make a new habit of getting up earlier that you set small goals. So if you are used to waking up at 7, maybe set your alarm for 6:58 and then the next day, 6:56, 6:54, 6:52 and on and on until you are finally easily able to wake up at 6. Making that small adjustment is easier on your body than just all of a sudden trying to wake up an hour earlier.

I was waking up easily at 6:30 to exercise before daylight saving time ended and once that happened, I haven’t been able to force myself out of bed before 7:02. If I set my alarm for 7, I can’t wake up but I can manage at 7:02. It’s strange.

  7. Early workouts don’t happen here…so my kids have to be driven to school at 8:30…but they wake up at 6:30 and I’m usually up by 7:15. So, I get up and get them breakfast, go upstairs and shower and put on workout clothes, finish getting them ready, drop them off, and since I’m already dressed and out of the house I head to the gym. I’ll get there and the goal is to be home by 10, then I clean and work (I own a home bakery and vlog, so just whatever is going on that day has to wait until like 11-3 when I am done with house stuff, then my youngest naps from 12-3). It isn’t weird showering before the gym, promise. Go home, wipe off if you’re really sweaty, then change and do hair and makeup. I’m like you and only wash my hair a couple times a week anyway.

  8. Just a little trick I use is to count down from 5 and then just get up!! It helps give you a sec to wake up and that’s honestly the hardest part is just getting up haha.

  9. Download a sleeping app! Instead of accidentally waking yourself up when you are in deep sleep (hardest to wake up from/ most sluggish), It’ll analyze your sleep patterns and wake you up when you are sleeping the lightest.

  10. I do the same thing…always turning off my alarm! I have heard there is an alarm with wheels on it and as soon as it starts going off it gets louder and moves away from you so you have to “chase” it by getting out of bed ?

  11. I would highly recommend listening/reading to the book called the 5 second rule – life changing for sure!!!! It will not only help and address getting out of bed but help out in all areas of life 🙂

  12. Put you alarm clock across the room so you are forced to actually get out of bed. I have such a hard time getting out of bed too.

  13. I have a lumie alarm clock it mimics the sun rising and is an excellent way to wake up. As it slowly brings you out of your sleep cycle naturally so you feel more alert when you finally do get up. (Also works in reverse helping you drift off to sleep with a night setting).

  14. I feel your pain! I just started waking up early this year (my teenager started early morning seminary), and the only time I can workout is between 5:30-7 am. I am NOT a morning person! So, the only thing that gets me going is a pre-workout…caffeine! Haha! It makes your workouts awesome too. Just have it mixed by your bed, shake it up and drink. It will get you going. I get RSP from Amazon. It’s tastes like Mio! You’ll love it! ?

  15. Put your phone on the other side of the bedroom so you have to get up to turn off the alarms. It actually works!

  16. I can totally relate. I’m a night owl and will sleep in til the last possible second that I HAVE to wake up. And really the only time for me to exercise is early in the morning.
One thing that has helped me is get up earlier is positive self talk. When the alarm goes off I’ll start thinking, “you can do this” and “ you are a morning person” or “you are going to feel awesome once you get your workout in.”

  17. Oh my gosh, I struggle with this so much! But I also love the time before my kids get up in the morning. I know this sounds totally weird, but I drink a whole bunch of water before I go to bed, and when my alarm goes off in the morning I have to go to the bathroom so bad that it forces me out of bed! It’s the only thing that has worked for me. Ha!
