MY FAVORITE WAYS TO ADD HOLIDAY STYLE TO A CLASSIC LITTLE BLACK DRESS

Here is the thing that makes a good LBD so special- if you find the right one that fits you like a glove, you can rewear this dress to parties and events all year long with a few with just a few styling changes.

My holiday party secret weapon

With holiday parties in full swing, I wanted to talk about one of my favorite tips for perfecting a holiday party look. I love a little black dress. I feel like they are my secret weapon for a chic party look! I found this one a few weeks ago at Nordstrom and I’m really in love with the fit, cut, and fabric of this dress. Nordstrom has a handful of really beautiful little black dresses at great price points right now, I linked to my top favorites below.

Add a little sparkle and shine

I love giving my LBD a whole new look through the addition of a great metallic belt, a statement earring, this velvet blazer, some pearl hair accessories, a sequin clutch, or cute heels (how good are these brand new star sandals?)

For the friend who has everything

By starting with a really classic dress as your base, bring in shine and sparkly with your accessories. I found so many great options to style a black dress at Nordstrom right now. I listed my favorite options all at good price points (most of them are under $50). And if you are struggling to find a gift for your friend who has everything, chances are she already has a good LBD in her closet, so these velvet ball hoops would make a great gift for her to pair with it (and under $30 too!).

And when it comes to last minute holiday shopping, I have started utilizing Nordstrom’s pay and pickup service – it is a life saver! Just pay for your item online, and select “pick up”. Within just a few hours you will get a text letting you know your order is ready. Pull up, shoot them a text, and someone will deliver your item to your car! I used this just last week and had a car full of sleepy boys in PJ’s and it was so convenient. I love that Nordstrom always has the customer experience in mind.

I truly love this little black dress. The fabric is a poly/spandex blend so it’s more luxe than a knit but still has a stretch to it. It isn’t maternity, but the side ruching is flattering with or without a bump! And the high neck is really chic. It’s such a great buy for under $80 and I love that I can wear it after baby too!

FLORAL SPRING DRESSES DONE RIGHT FOR SPRING

I love floral dresses. LOVE them. I really wanted a floral dress to wear for Easter. In a perfect world I would have made my Easter dress…but that just didn’t happen this year. I rounded up some of my favorite floral dresses online today in honor of Easter weekend.

I scoured everywhere online and was a little underwhelmed at the floral print dresses I found Does anyone else feel this way? I feel like floral prints done right are SO good…but there are a lot of floral prints out there that miss the mark. Too busy, too youthful, too old, to bright, too bold.

THE HOT PINK TREND FOR SPRING: MY TOP 5 PICKS & HOW TO WEAR THEM

Hot pink was all over the red carpet this awards season. It’s very much a hot shade for Spring 2019. Hot pink can be a little tricky to style and look chic, but I’ll help you find and style this shade so you can wear it with confidence.

While I’m very much a girly girl who loves a pretty pink dress, the specific shade of hot pink isn’t in my closet a ton. Today I’m sharing 6 hot pink pieces I’m loving for spring and how I would style them.

NUDE PUMPS

LIPS: MAC “BOLDLY BARE” LINER & BARE MINERALS LIPSTICK IN “CRUSH” (one of my go to combos)

1. A HOT PINK STATEMENT DRESS

If you are going to go all out with a hot pink dress, I would suggest pairing it with nude pumps, a gold statement earring, a neutral bag (think white, nude, or gold), and a nude or soft pink lip. I fell head over heels for this breathtaking Self Portrait hot pink ruffled dress. The light weight chiffon keep the dress classy and whimsical. This dress is enough of a statement, so I wouldn’t recommend overdoing it with a hot pink lip or other matching accessories. That’s where the look would go from chic to overdoing it.

2. A HOT PINK LIP

I usually only wear a hot pink lip in the spring and summer. When I do I usually pair it with a simple white blouse or white dress. I don’t like mixing in too many color with a bold pink lip. I also tend to shy away from wearing statement earrings. Just a simple earrings, minimal eyeshadow, and a simple winged eyeliner to balance it out should do the trick! I wrote about more of my favorite pink lip shades in this post. I also love the bright fuchsia color I wore in The May Dress Shoot!

3. A HOT PINK BATHING SUIT

Hot pink is so perfect for the pool or beach! It’s a flattering shade on all skin tones. I have a hot pink suit I wore in this post and I feel so much more tan when I wear it. With summer around the corner I have my eye on a few of these great hot pink suits.

4. A HOT PINK BLAZER

I own this hot pink blazer and I really love it. I haven’t worn it for a while, so I’m excited to start rotating it into my wardrobe again for spring. Again – let the blazer speak for itself, and pair with neutrals. I think a white crew neck tee and white pants with casual slides would be really cute with a hot pink blazer.

5. A HOT PINK BLOUSE

I found a few really cute hot pink blouses. I’m usually turned off by the idea of a hot pink blouse, but if there are ruffles or lace involved I can get onboard. I think a hot pink blouse needs to be fairly frilly, all out girl. I don’t think I would get a classic button-up blouse or a tee in a hot pink. I think of hot pink as a statement color, so the cut of the top needs to be a statement as well. I think a hot pink blouse is the only time I think a hot pink lip or statement earrings would be appropriate (not both though!). If it’s balanced with jeans and a nude pump and loose waves or a simply pony it can look really chic with that same color pop on the lip or ear!

When we think of layers we usually think of bundling up in a long cardigan over a favorite white tee, or chunky knit sweaters under jackets to add a little more style to a casual look. But I want to talk about another layering trend that I’m loving right now: layering dresses. Who remembers when this trend was popular in the 90’s? It was all about spaghetti strap tank tops and dresses over your t-shirt!

I love how simple and delicate this blush drop waist dress is, and I didn’t want that to get lost by covering it up with a jacket. Jackets also tend to change the look, and I wanted to keep this look feminine and classic. I love the details in my white lace blouse, and I knew that the blush would stand out perfectly over the white without overpowering it. So pairing the two together was a simple way to layer a dress in a way that was fresh and feminine.

When the weather warms up, this is a really easy look to dress down in sneakers or sandals too. These blush sneakers would work with a layered dress and tee look. The easiest way to make this trend causal is to find the right dress, which is usually a slip dress, in a fabric that isn’t too dressy.

I’m ready to pull out all the floral dresses and tops. This floral dress is so pretty in person, with beautiful details and the perfect flowy look to it. For less than $100, it’s one I highly recommend. I love how it paired with a simple jean jacket and some open-toe sandals.

I love the ruffle trend. My sweater is less than $50 and it comes in black and grey. It has a loose, but feminine fit that is easy to dress up with your favorite jeans and some pumps. These jeans are so comfortable. I was looking for a new pair without distressing, and these were my top choice. I talk more about them in this post.

I love the look of a black leather jacket and white tee. This faux leather jacket is similar to mine, and less than $!00! It’s a piece you won’t ever regret buying. It’s so easy to style, and I’m currently loving it paired with my casual looks.

This sweatshirt trend is so much fun to style. I love the fit and color of this sweatshirt, and how well it works with these velvet sneakers. Sizes are extremely limited in my shoes, so hurry and shop them before they’re gone!

This sweater is the best oat color for wearing with browns and whites. Neutrals and whites are an easy transition from Winter to Spring, and I know these white jeans will be getting a lot of wear as the seasons change. My leather jacket is older, but this one is a similar style and color for less than $100.

I love a classic look. This white button down top is similar to mine, and it’s a closet staple of mine for sure. It’s so easy to layer with, and it adds a classic and stylish look to any outfit. I love it under a long coat, like this one. This leopard clutch is similar to mine, and it’s less than $40!

This faux leather jacket is very similar to mine, and it’s less than $100. It’s the perfect color for Spring. My favorite joggers are still fully stocked. If you haven’t found yourself a pair, these ones are perfectly soft and comfortable for wearing all day.

My camel coat sold out just as fast as I posted about it going on sale, but this one is really similar. I love how easy this coat is to throw over a simple top or a little black dress. This black sweater dress is similar to mine, and it’s currently on sale for 40% off. It comes in a few other colors, including a red that would be perfect for Valentine’s Day.

I love to keep my looks simple and cozy when I can. This grey sweater is only $39, and it’s one of those sweaters you never want to take off. It’s super soft, and you can easily wear it all day to stay comfortable. My olive cargo pants are older, but I linked to two similar options. This pair comes in three colors, and is only $45. This pair is a little more, but I love the tailored leg and fitted ankles, which makes it more like a dressed up jogger. Perfect for keeping casual in style.

I love a good basics look, and you can never go wrong with a striped tee. Mine is older, but this one is really similar and good quality. Stripes are still going strong for 2017, so now is the time to stock up on all things stripes. My grey vest is also older, but this one is currently on sale for $52! Vests are an easy go-to piece for adding an extra layer and another dimension to your look.

An all black look is such a good safe bet. I love wearing black, but I don’t find myself where it very often. When I do opt for all black, I like to still keep it girly and feminine. This cute top with ruffles on the sleeves, along with a simple black bow in my hair tie are 2 simple ways to keep an all black look from feeling boring. And adding a bold color or print in a coat always adds drama to an all black look!

A GOLDEN NEW YEAR

The week in between Christmas and New Years is always a weird funky limbo. I’m never really sure what day it is, and New Years seems to spring up on me before I’m ready for it!

We will probably be very last minute with our New Year plans, but if you have a fun countdown bash to attend, make sure you check out Nordstrom’s pleated metallic skirt selection. Pleated midi skirts are so huge right now, and a metallic fabric would be perfect to wear to ring in the new year! My gold velvet skirt sold out in just a matter of days, and I have been checking religiously for it to come back in stock! They brought back the same skirt in a pretty silver, but I will keep you all posted if they do bring back the gold. Nordstrom does have a few other gold options here and here.

I paired this skirt with a long sleeved mock turtleneck. The ruffles and embellishments on the top keep it feeling modern, but the classic silhouette of the top balances out the bold metallic fabric. Finish off the look with a bold red lip and red nails and you’ll be ready to countdown to 2017!

This black laser cut skirt is very similar to mine, and it’s less than $70! I love adding a pop of color to dressy looks, and this holiday red is the perfect color for dressing up today and tomorrow.
