A FANCY FALL TABLESCAPE

I think back to when Garrett and I were first married and all of the thought and design that went into the decor and design elements. Since our wedding I have welcomed any opportunity to throw a party with an awesome color scheme and tablescape, so today I’m partnering with Macy’s to share a spread that would be fall wedding worthy!

Since Thanksgiving is in the air, I wanted to keep in mind that this kind of setting would also work on a smaller scale for a Thanksgiving dinner. But take this tablescape, multiply it by a few dozen, and how gorgeous would a fall wedding set up look!?

Fall Wedding Place Settings:

There are a lot of different ways to add class and elegance to a wedding dinner table, but there are a few key pieces that really elevate the look and feel for your guests. I opted to keep the plates and cups clean and simple, and bring in more texture in the placemats and linens.

I used Lenox napkins from Macy’s in dove grey. These napkins are so gorgeous and I especially love the delicate white trim that brings a feminine touch. I ordered this same color scheme in a round table linen as well because I love the color and texture so much!

I added a pop of glam with these gold Chilewhich Pressed Dahlia Placemats. I can’t tell you how much I love these placemats. They are made from a pressed vinyl-coated polyester and are bendable and wipeable. They look so elegant and are so incredibly functional.

I love the idea of using these placemats for a fall wedding reception, but they would also make a fantastic wedding gift. For any brides out there, add these to your registry! I love that you don’t have to throw then in the wash after every use. Just wipe them up and you’re good to go!

Florals:

A good color scheme for fall is crucial in delivering the right feel of the season. I’m not a big fan of orange and browns, so I brought in deep hues of burgundy, purple, and red. I mixed in lots of greenery as well which is an inexpensive way to make a centerpiece look extra full and dramatic. Eucalyptus and seeded eucalyptus are perfect fall greenery options. I added them all along the outsides of the arrangement to have the effect of the leaves pouring over the edge

*hint: I used three smaller clear vases to make the large flower centerpiece! I set them in a triangle on the round platter and filled them all individually.

Throw a small sprig of seeded eucalyptus in front of name cards! A simple touch that ties in the centerpieces with the place settings.

One last small idea to consider when planning a fall wedding menu is to throw in some Thanksgiving day favorite foods! How delicious and unique would it be to serve these comfort foods? I listed a few of my favorite Thanksgiving sides below for a little inspiration. I made a mini Thanksgiving dinner for Garrett’s birthday recently and these are some of my favorite tried and true recipes that would be classy and delicious to serve at a wedding.

Sweet Potato and Apple Bake Recipe

Traditionally times this sweet potato casserole is made with marshmallows, but this recipe is more sophisticated and fit for a wedding! I love the blend of tangy green apples with orange juice, mixed with the sweetness of yams and brown sugar. This is sure to be a hit!

*tip: start boiling the sweet potatoes with cold water and work up to boiling – it will ensure for an even cook. Don’t overcook the potatoes, cook them until you can poke a fork through them but not soft enough to mash. Also, I always double the green apples because I think that provides a more balanced flavor mixture.

Green Bean Casserole Recipe

Some people might turn their noses up at canned green beans and Cream of Mushroom soup, but I promise it makes for the very best version of this casserole!

Stuffing

There are so many great options, but I usually opt for the easy route by buying boxed stuffing. Spruce it up by adding ground sausage and cranberries!

Mashed Potatoes

Especially for a wedding or Thanksgiving dinner, use real potatoes for this dish! Imitation potatoes just won’t cut it!

Long cardigans are so easy to wear this time of year. They have been my go to for casual looks. I loved this rust colored one the second I saw it. My maroon top is under $40, and it has a great high/low length. I like a slight tucked look, making the color stand out without distracting from the length of the sweater.

Gingham has a reputation for being a spring style, but I think it’s a great holiday style too. Layering it under a long sweater, or long vest, is an easy way to tie it into your look. It’s also really cute tucked into a midi skirt for a dressier look. The one I’m wearing is almost completely sold out, but this one is almost identical and it comes in a holiday red too.

Everyone has their go-to comfy look. I was so happy to add these grey joggers to mine. They are the softest things ever. They come in three colors, but the light grey goes with just about everything so I had to go with these. My black top is also super soft, and right now it’s on sale… $39 for two shirts! There are six colors to choose from, and I highly recommend it as a layering tee.

It’s little black dress season, which means it’s time to start looking for that perfect dress for the holidays. I loved this one because of the cutout top. I love how easily some black pumps and red lips can dress your look up.

I’m all about long cardigans this time of year. They are easy to throw over casual tees and nicer tops (like this chambray shirt) for everyday errands, and they add style to any look. My leather jacket is definitely a fall staple of mine. Mine is sold out, but I love the looks of this one and this one. They are both under $100, so if you have been thinking about a leather jacket for this season these are great deals! I love how they look with my black buckle booties, which also have an edgier look to them.

This is the time of year for little black dresses and scarves. I love the combination of black with browns, so these chestnut booties and scarf were the perfect pairing with my black dress (under $100). Since my scarf already sold out, I linked to three similar scarves above that are all $25!

I love the look of black and grey. It’s clean, simple, and classic. Sometimes black booties with blue jeans can feel a little clunky together, but these grey pants and black booties together really dress up this look. My black tee is one of the most comfortable shirts for layering, but it works great on it’s own too.

Little black dresses are great this time of year with all the holiday parties and family gatherings. The one I am wearing is sold out, but I linked to three that are very similar. This one is the most similar because it has a floral design with lace all over, and I love the sleeves on it (it’s also only $48). This one is really classic, which I love, with pretty lace sleeves that are shorter like mine (it’s just over $100). And this one is more expensive, but the details are amazing. It has long sleeves and a drop waist. My lipstick is only $4, and I’m wearing a color called Snow White, which is a really pretty bright red.

Denim on denim is one of my favorite casual looks. This chambray shirt is a great fall staple. I love adding a long cardigan sweater over it this time of year because fall is all about simple layers. This grey cardigan is really similar to mine, and it’s currently on sale for $35 (and it comes in four colors). These booties are probably my most worn so far this season, and right now they are on sale for under $100!

SIX FALL LOOKS TO GET YOU INSPIRED

With fall in full swing now, I wanted to pull together 6 looks from the past for inspiration this fall. I’ve linked to similar items below when anything I’m wearing is no longer available! A lot of the items I’m wearing are still fully stocked, and surprisingly most of these looks include current fall trends like fringe, cowl neck sweaters, long cardigans, and saddle bags. Hopefully these looks allow you to make use of some of the styles you already own, while adding elements of this season’s trends to pull the outfit together.

ORIGIONAL POST

This cape is a great fall layering piece, and it’s still available in red and navy (currently under $60). My turtleneck is also still available, and it comes in five different colors (all basics, so they are easy to match!). Turtlenecks are really in this season and very versatile. You can wear them by themselves with jeans, or layered under sweaters and dresses.

Two things you still can’t go wrong with this season are flared denim and cowl neck sweaters. These jeans are currently on sale for under $90! This cowl neck sweater is still available, and it comes in 6 colors (under $70). My saddle bag is sold out, but this one is very similar and also comes in cognac or black. It seems like long cardigans will always be a fall trend. They are so versatile and easy to throw over just about anything. I love that fringe made a comeback again this year because I love this fringe bag (very similar to my clutch). It’s the perfect color for all the cognac booties. I love shirtdresses for fall, especially in L.A. where our falls feel more like summer (this one is most similar to mine, but I love the length on this one and the longer sleeves on this one). You can still add a floppy hat, some open-toe booties, and even tie an extra layer around your waist when it’s cooler out. Olive green is the perfect color for fall, and it works with all kinds of browns and neutrals.

This white top is still a staple of mine. I have it in a couple other colors, and I love how easily it works tucked into a skirt. This olive lace skirt is very similar to mine. I love how it looks with classic heeled oxfords like these. You could even add a neck scarf to this look to dress it up a little more.

I was surprised how much I liked the look of my mustard yellow top with a navy midi skirt. I made my lace skirt, but this one is so similar, and it’s only $25! Midi skirts are so easy to dress up during the holidays, and they give you length for warmth. When paired with a delicate top or blouse, you really can’t go wrong in terms of mixing colors and patterns to keep your look unique and trendy.

Two hungry boys in the dressing room gets a little crazy at times, but it didn’t stop me from finding some cute new staples for the season! I think greys are a really great neutral for fall, and pairing a lighter and darker shade of grey together is the perfect compliment. This light grey top is actually a crewneck sweatshirt, believe it or not. It’s almost completely sold out, but this one is a very similar style (and only $26), and this one looks nearly identical (only it’s actually sweater material).

These Nikes are the prettiest things ever. If these don’t make you want to take up working out, I don’t know what will. They are the most vivid color violet ever. But the best part about them is that they are only $60, with free shipping! They were $46 when I posted them earlier this week, but that was a one day sale for that color, so the price went back up. Even at $60 though, you can’t go wrong!

I love how easily my grey crewneck transitioned from a casual piece to a dressier one with some simple statement jewelry (and a simple choker) and some nude pumps. Normally I’m a gold jewelry girl, but this silver necklace worked perfectly with this grey outfit. These grey jeans are going to be a new favorite of mine, I can already tell. They are very flattering and super versatile for casual and dressy looks.

6 WAYS TO KEEP COZY IN THE FALL

This time of year I find myself wanting to take things a little slower and savor the fun of prepping for the holidays. The change over to fall comes with so many cozy activities, and I want to make sure I take advantage of them! We may not get too many changing leaves or below freezing temperatures, but our mornings and evenings are starting to cool down finally!

I recently got a few Cuddle Duds fleecewear stretch long-sleeve hooded wraps, and I love that it’s getting cool enough to wear them! Our house was built in 1913 and has next to no insulation, so it gets crazy cold when temperatures drop even a little. I’m always walking around like a crazy person in my robe and slippers all day long, but I’ve switched from my robe to this wrap and it is so soft and warm. It’s a lot more versatile than my bathrobe too! I can dress it up to go shopping with black pants and booties. Since it’s 100% fall now, I wanted to share a few of our favorite fall activities that help make things feel nice and festive:

Spend lazy mornings reading books: Cash is only home with me on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so the mornings I don’t drive for school carpool I like to hang around the house in comfy clothes and spend as much quality time with him as I can. He usually stays in his jammies, and I recently swapped out my robe for my Cuddl Duds fleecewear wrap (it’s just as warm but I don’t have to be embarrassed answering my door wearing it at 11:30 😉 ). He loves reading books, so the other day I surprised him with his very own Lost My Name book. It comes customized to the child’s name, and he was so cute when he opened the book and read his name on the first page. “Mom! It says my name so that means it’s my very own book!” He seriously melts my heart!

Drink Pumpkin Spice Herbal Tea: I’m more of an apple cider girl than a hot chocolate girl, but I don’t love all the sugar that comes with it. A few years ago I discovered Pumpkin Spice herbal tea at Trader Joes, and I mix it with almond milk and honey. It is my favorite thing to drink every morning in the fall. I stocked up on them last year, and I need to do it again this year!

Go shopping…real shopping: I am an online shopper through and through. It is just SO convenient as a busy mom. But taking the time to window shop up and down stores that are starting to be trimmed and decorated for fall is so nostalgic! I threw on my Cuddl Duds fleecewear wrap to run a few errands downtown the other day, and it was so comfy to shop in.

Light candles: I love the mood that I can set in my home with scents. Lighting a candle while I pick up the house, or after dinner as I’m getting the boys ready for bed, helps set a (somewhat) calmer atmosphere in our crazy house. And I’ll take any excuse I can get to smell pumpkin spice!

Cuddle: Does this sound cheesy? Probably because it is. But I love changing into my comfy pants and fleecewear wrap after a long day and curling up next to Garrett on the couch for a TV show or as we work.

Visit a pumpkin patch: So maaaaby we get our pumpkins from the grocery store down the street, but I still take the boys to a pumpkin patch each year! The best ones are a bit of a drive for us, but the boys love it and it’s worth the dirt and stress for the memories and traditions we are starting to build in our little family.

I don’t think one top has ever gotten so much attention. But it made me so excited to see that so many of you loved this top as much as I do! It’s such a great price point (on sale for only $18!), has a high neck which is perfect for fall and really trendy right now, and the details in it are really pretty. The color says yellow, but it’s more of an orange-yellow to me. I’m wearing a size medium for reference. It works really well with brown hues, so my Tory Burch bag was the perfect addition.

This grey striped sweater is so comfy! It’s been so hot here, but give me one sightly overcast day and I’m throwing on a fall sweater. I love the coloring in it, and the oversize look it has (I’m wearing a US 8). Sizes are extremely limited though, so it’ll go fast. These sunglasses are only $50 and they are a great pair to transition into fall with, especially here where we never really put our sunglasses away completely. My fringe booties are under $90, and they come in this saddle brown, black, and grey. I love that they add just the right amount of detail to a casual look. I got a lot of questions on my instagram. The reviews said they ran small, so I ordered 1/2 size up and I’m so glad I did! Also, they are pretty comfy. I walked all over Old Town Pasadena in them (no socks) and I didn’t have any problems. I will say that they aren’t as padded as some of my other booties, and are a little stiff. But they didn’t hurt my feet, so that’s a win in my book!

Nothing says fall like plaid and distressed denim. I got this plaid shirt last year here and it has since sold out, but I found a really similar top in the same color way here that also comes in two other colors. It’s a great length (a little longer in the back), and doesn’t fit too oversized. My bag is a really pretty embossed python leather, and it comes in five colors (there’s a really pretty rose pink that I love) Mine is a slate grey, and I love how it worked with the plaid. Grey is always a nice neutral for fall because it works well with blues, browns, and greens. My booties are still available and fully stocked. They are one of my favorite purchases from the Nordstrom Sale this year. I’ve already got so much use out of them!

The mule trend is really popular right now. Some mules can look a little dated, but I think the embellished leather detail in these, and the fact that they are a neutral color, makes them trendier and fit with my style much better. I ordered my normal size and my heel goes right to the very edge, so I had to return them and size 1/2 size up! I love the colors in this checked scarf, and it’s only $25! I predict this scarf will sell out quickly since it’s such a great neutral pattern, so grab it fast if you want one. I’m excited to start putting together fall looks to wear it with.

This is the comfiest blue dress, and it’s currently 40% off! This will be an easy dress to transition into fall. It’s the perfect length (with pockets and sleeves!) and can easily be worn under a long sweater with a scarf for colder temps. It also comes in a really pretty red, which is the perfect color to brighten up your holiday parties.

These black flats by Tieks saved my feet in New York! We were on our feet most of the day, and in between all the heels it was such a treat to be in comfortable flats. With the heat in New York it was nice to have a light and versatile white top like this one. It can be worn long, but I liked it tied up for a more casual and polished look. It’s sold out in the white, but there are a couple other colors available still. And it’s currently on sale under $30! My sunglasses are also a steal at just $60, and they look just like many of the more expensive pairs out there.

This dress was so fun to wear. It’s such a feminine look with a really nice flare to it. I loved how it worked with my fringe heels. They added the perfect amount of detail without being too overwhelming or taking away from the detail in the dress.

I worked so hard to get this dress finished in time for Fashion Week, and I am so glad I did! I love how it turned out. One of the best parts of making my own clothing is knowing there isn’t anyone else wearing my exact look. It’s unique and one of a kind, even when it’s inspired by a similar pice. This dress was my inspiration for the one I made. It has some amazing details in it!

I love this dress, with all of it’s amazing details. It was the perfect look for my last night in New York. I linked to this one that is really similar, only it has three quarter length sleeves. Because the dress is so detailed, I kept the rest of my look pretty simple. These black heels and black bag are great staples for dresses, especially going into fall and winter when more of the neutral and darker color dresses make their appearances.

My favorite go-to top for so many looks, and it’s only $38 for two of them! It comes in lots of different colors too. My cut-out booties are sold out, but this pair is really similar. These leggings are so comfortable and a nice alternative to pants for certain looks. This pair has some distressing, so they are more like pants, but have the same comfort as a legging.

Oh you guys. Fashion Week was an absolute blast! It was so good to be back in New York. I wanted to round up all of the looks I posted while I was there so that you could find everything I was wearing in one place. I hope you guys enjoyed some of the behind the scenes snaps and stories I shared while I was there! It was so much fun to go to all the shows and meet so many wonderful people who I admire so much. I loved every part of it (besides my crazy hotel experience I shared here). But I’m glad to be back home and relaxing with my boys this weekend. I hope everyone has a great weekend! This white top is one of my favorites. It layers so well (especially with a fitted blazer to make your look more tailored), and it’s the perfect length. It’s also marked down 40% right now, so it’s under $30! Sizes are really limited, but if they have your size I would definitely recommend it as a staple for fall! There are unlimited ways to wear a white button up. These jeans are under $70 and really comfortable. The distressing is more subtle on them too.

I love long vests. They are so versatile and will definitely transition into fall perfectly. I linked to two similar long vests. This long light grey vest is on sale for $40, and this one comes in either a darker grey or black and is under $35! Both are great options for lots of cute fall looks. It’s so easy to add some contrast and layer long sweater vests over dresses for fall. This black dress is really similar to mine, just with a little bit shorter sleeves (which is great for throwing under a long sweater for fall), and it’s on sale right now for under $20!

This pink blazer is supposed to be oversized, but I love that it doesn’t lose it’s feminine touch even with the slouchiness. I like it with this white peplum top because it’s a little more tailored than the blazer, and I think it adds some definition to the look. This peplum top is similar, but it’s sleeveless and has some ruffles that dress it up a bit more. It also comes in a red that would be really pretty for the fall.

This striped top is such a flattering fit and cut, and it’s the perfect length too. Unfortunately it’s sold out in the black and white stripes, but the last time I checked they still had it in solid black and solid white with limited sizes. And it’s less than $15 now! It does run big, but the fit is supposed to be looser. I’m wearing a medium and you can see that the fit is baggier, which I wanted. My wedges are now under $50 (40% off!). I have worn them all summer, for both casual looks like this and more dressed up looks, and they are definitely one of my favorite pairs.

Happy September everyone! I am still having trouble with the idea that summer is coming to an end, but we have a lot to look forward to with fall and some warmer weather clothes coming up! Labor Day is Monday, so this weekend there are some major sales happening. I wanted to give you a list of all the big ones that I will be checking out. INSTAGRAM ROUNDUP

This skirt is simple and bold. It goes perfectly with a solid black top and some black and white heels. I linked to a similar one that is under $35! Black and white is always a classy way to dress up for date nights, and there is a lot of potential for adding pops of color to this look with a cute bag or some fun heels.

This is the ultimate comfy look, and I love it. It’s so fun to dress up, especially for shoots where I’m trying new looks, but I love to be casual too. Momiforms all the way. These are some of the softest, most comfortable jeans I own. And I love adding my New Balances with them. For me, running errands and keeping up with my boys is something that never ends. These shoes are perfect for those long days out. My cargo jacket is still sold out, but I linked to two similar ones (this one is under $70!). It’ll be a fall staple of mine for sure.

Have you seen enough of my black and white looks yet? I love this striped top so much. It’s girly, with a simple and elegant combination. It works really well casually, with some distressed jeans. But you could definitely dress it up with a pencil skirt too. Add some color with a cute bag or shoes and you’ve got the perfect day to night look.

Basics like a pair of distressed jeans and a comfortable white top are always a favorite staple of mine. This look is versatile, classic, and easy to make your own. I love to add some color contrast by adding a couple key pieces that stand out, like my bag and some detailed booties. These booties are so comfortable, and the color goes with everything. INSTAGRAM ROUNDUP

I’m so glad I scooped this dress up while it was on sale. It went so fast! It’s available in limited sizes in the navy now, but I did link to two other dresses that are fully stocked. This one will be perfect for fall, and it comes in so many colors, including emerald green. My Ted Baker bag is back in stock again too. I love this bag for so many reasons, one of them being the classic shape it has. It’s different than a lot of my other bags, and it has a really chic look to it.

This suit is so comfortable, covers well, and has the prettiest colors in it. And guess what… it’s on sale! This is such a quality suit, and one that I will definitely pull out again and again. Even though we’re getting towards the end of summer, I don’t think this heat is going anywhere fast. So if you’re thinking about getting a new suit, I highly recommend this one.

This look is such an easy summer to fall look. These booties are back in stock in limited sizes, so hurry! They have the best cut to them, and they are the perfect color to go with all your fall outfits. This black maxi dress is so comfortable, and it has pockets! This one is almost identical, and it’s under $15 on clearance! I also love this one, which has a slightly higher cut to it (not quite maxi). For a limited time, my Aimee Kestenberg bag is on sale. I love this color for fall, but it also comes in other great colors. I shared all the reasons I love it in this post. But basically, it’s got everything you’ll want in a purse.

Tomorrow is the last day to get these olive moto pants on sale from Brickyard Buffalo. They are so comfortable and the perfect alternative to jeans. I love how they look with black, and I know with fall just around the corner they will continue to get lots of use. I linked to a very similar pair, that has more of an athleisure look to them. They come in a few different colors. My flats are sold out, but I linked to a similar pair. I know so many of you were interested in them, so I’m so sad they aren’t available. The pair I linked to would also work with these pants, and will also be great shoes to have this fall. Also, the last time I checked there was only one of these Rebecca Minkoff bags left!
