6 things I do to help make our mornings less stressful.

Mornings before school can be crazy. Absolute madness. I hate rushing my kids out the door and off to 6 hours of school away from me after a hectic morning with yelling, fighting, and stress. Those mornings are inevitable, but I started doing a few things toward the end of the school year last year that really helped me. I have implemented them this year and it’s made for smoother happier mornings. We haven’t been late or had any yelling in the mornings yet (granted…it’s only been 2 weeks), but I’ve found when I follow these simple steps, our mornings are always better.

6 Simple Tips That Make For Stress Free School Mornings

6 Simple Tips That Make For Stress Free School Mornings 6 Things I Do That Make For A Smoother Morning 6 Things I Do That Make For A Smoother Morning

Spoiler alert: if you are going to have a successful morning, it starts the day before.

6 THINGS THAT HELP MAKE FOR STRESS FREE SCHOOL MORNINGS

1. PACK LUNCHES/WATER BOTTLES THE DAY BEFORE:

As much as I hate making school lunches, I hate them even more if I have to make them the morning of. It will make us late every single time. The best method for me is to prep their lunch in the afternoon the day before while I am making Eli’s lunch. I already have lunch food out. So it isn’t quite as much of a pain to make. I’ve also tried packing lunch for 2 days at a time. Turkey and cheese rollups keep just fine for 2 days in the fridge and they are pretty fast once you get a little assembly line going.

2. LAY OUT THE KIDS CLOTHES THE NIGHT BEFORE:

This is another pre day prep that saves me in the mornings! We’ve found a lot of great boys basic back to school clothes this year at Nordstrom. Having a handful of cute tees that go with a handful of neutral shorts or pants makes it so easy for me to let the boys pick and lay out their clothing each night. Nordstrom has so many great boy basics that are good quality and durable. We already agree on the clothing. So it’s nice to have a lot of good mix and match options.

3. GIVE THEM SMALL SET JOBS THEY ARE IN CHARGE OF EACH MORNING:

Toward the end of last year I got into a bad habit of going to bed too late, which led to sleeping in too late. The boys got in a bad habit of waking up too early and watching TV downstairs instead of getting dressed. It just wasn’t a good combination. This year I am forcing myself to get up earlier because I need to be in more control of my kids routine. However, we also tell them that they are in charge of getting dressed, making their beds, washing their face, brushing their teeth, and doing their hair before them can come downstairs (yes, they brush their teeth before breakfast. It’s just more efficient that way!) This gives me time for a quick shower after a run before heading down to help with breakfast and helping them get their bags packed.

4. KEEP BREAKFAST SIMPLE:

I’ve tried making a big batch of banana protein muffins on Sunday since they are easy to eat and the boys can grab one on their own. They are also helpful if they need to eat in the car on the way (I don’t like having my kids eat breakfast in the car on the way to school, but its a good option if it comes down to that!). Usually my kids can get their own cereal, but I always give them half a banana, toast with peanut butter, or a muffin in addition to the cereal to give them some good protein. I’ve found that trying to scramble eggs or make pancakes just takes to long for us. So having a few simple options to choose from keeps the breakfast drill efficient.

5. SET THE TIME THAT YOU NEED TO START LOADING IN THE CAR:

Not the time that you need to leave. Because If you need to leave the house by 8:15, you won’t pull out of the driveway if you start loading the car at 8:15. I’ve made a hard mental note that we need to be done with breakfast by 8 and start loading the car by 8:10. I’m always running back into the house for shoes, homework, jackets, or snacks and this gives me a buffer of time to do so.

6. MAKE THE DRIVE TO SCHOOL CALM AND POSITIVE:

This can be harrrrd if you are running late. But I’ve learned to shift my mindset. The drive to school is where you can make up for any of the stress of fights trying to get out the door. Everyone is bucked and not moving, so I try and take this time to do positive affirmations with my kids. Many times this is when we have our morning family prayer. Or if I’m just at my wits end, I’ll turn on kid music so I don’t have to talk! Whatever you do, those minutes are a precious cool down/prep time for school. Build up your child’s confidence, tell them they will have a wonderful day, give them happy positive words they can take with them throughout that day of school.

HOW I PREP MY KIDS FOR PRESCHOOL

How to prep your toddler for preschool.

ON ELI: GREY TEE  ||  JOGGERS  ||  NAVY NATIVES  ||  SKIP HOP BACKPACK (so many cute characters!)

ON ME: LIGHT BLUE BUTTON UP TEE  ||  JEANS  ||  GOLD FLATS

Eli started preschool last week and it was a success! The night before his first day I laid in bed next to him and walked him through what the entire day was going go be like. How we will get to meet his teacher, he will wash his hands first thing and then maybe get to color or look at the books in the book section of the classroom. Since my older boys went to the same preschool I knew what songs they would learn, so I sang some of them to him.

How to prep your toddler for preschool.

When it was time for him to sleep he said “that hurts me tummy!” and I realized that he was nervous! I rubbed his back and sang him songs to calm him down. That night he woke up crying with a nightmare, so we let him sleep in bed with us. In the morning he was unusually quiet at breakfast (usually he is bouncing off the walls) and he didn’t want to eat much.

I knew he was experiences nerves for his first day.

My older two weren’t quite as nervous to start, so I was a little worried there might be tears when we got to his school. But once we got to his class and he recognized his classroom and teacher from Back to School night, he was just fine. Have that familiarity already in place helped him a ton!

Here are a few ways I’ve learned to help prep little ones for their first day at preschool:

Get them familiar with the school:

Eli had been to this preschool to drop off his older brother tons of times before, so he already felt comfortable there. Schools usually have a Back to School night before school starts, or drop by for a tour with your child so that they can see the place beforehand.

Talk them through what the day will be like:

This kind of information is not wasted on a child as young as three. They are little sponges, and you might not realize how much information they will remember! I talk to Eli about how he will wash his hands right when we get to the school and when we walked into his class he turned to me and said “I wash hands!”

Let them help pick our their backpack or clothes:

When they get to decide what to wear it will make them so excited to get dressed in the morning! Eli is using the cutest fox backpack we got at Nordstrom and he loves it. Nordstrom is so great about carrying school gear that appeals to kids (that the moms can get on board with too!) Another good Nordstrom find I always pick up for my boys when they are around three are these shoes. Nordstrom carries the best color selection and these are the best shoes to slip on (no socks needed) and they are so durable! I highly recommend them as a great preschool shoe.

Talk about a favorite yummy snack you two can eat together when you come to pick them up:

This gives them something to look forward to after school and reassure them that you will be back for them.

Introduce their teacher into conversations before they start:

Eli’s teacher mailed out a cute letter addressed to him. He was so excited to open it and we talked all about his teacher before he started school. This way he felt like he already knew her on his first day.

Lay out their outfit the night before:

Eli sees my doing this with his big brothers each night before school, so when it was time for him to go to preschool, he went right to his dresser and pulled out clothes to lay on the floor. It was so cute I had to grab my phone and share it on insta stories (did you see it??) He laid out his sock and underwear next to his shorts and they had to be perfectly straight. It was so cute!

Watch for signs of nerves and treat them with love and care:

Acknowledge the fear they might be having. Tell them it’s ok to be nervous.

I still can’t believe Eli is in preschool! Three is one of my very favorite ages though. It makes watching him grow up not quite as hard knowing how fun (and funny!) age three is!

The best place to get back to school kids basics.

School starts in just over one week! I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that their school starts in August. A big part of my wants the full month of August to still be summer!

Sometimes I think about the fact that I send off my kids to school 5 days a week for 6 hours a day to learn from others and it kind of freaks me out. While it is so good and so important, my mom heart is just full of worries. “Will they learn the right things?” “will they have confidence” “will they stick up for what they believe in?”. I know I can’t be with them every second of the day (because…lets face it. We would all go insane).

So what I’ve started doing is telling them a few phrases each morning or night and having them repeat it back to me. These words of affirmation boost their confidence. Also, I love that they hear me tell them these things first, and that they say them out loud to themselves. There is so much power in saying things out loud! My hope is that when they struggle and when I am not around, that phrases like, “I am brave”, “I am strong” will come to their mind.

kids basics

Words of affirmation I tell my kids everyday.

In the summer we have been reciting these words of affirmation at night before bed. But once school starts I like to do it in the car on the way to school. It’s usually pretty chaotic in the morning trying to get out the door. So I try to combat a stressful morning by using these words of affirmation to mentally prep them for a day of school while we are driving.

Words of affirmation I tell my kids everyday.

SOME WORDS OF AFFIRMATION I LIKE TO SAY

  • I am smart
  • I am brave
  • I am kind
  • I am happy
  • I am obedient
  • I am considerate
  • I am a good listener
  • I am silly
  • I am handsome
  • I am loved
  • I am helpful
  • I am important

The best place to get back to school kids basics.

Usually, I make up what I say as I go depending on what they need in that moment. If Cash has been super grumpy that day I will have him say “I am happy” as one of his phrases. Also, if Eli looks me dead in the eye while he pours his glass of chocolate milk all over the kitchen floor, you better believe “I am obedient” will be one of his phrases. I say about 7-10 “I am” phrases, and I always end it with “When I grow up, I will do great things!”. Because ultimately, that is what I want for them. Furthermore, I want to give them all of the tools that I can to grow up and do GREAT things in this world!

5 MOM FRIENDLY SUMMER OUTFITS

It’s summer! All my kids are home all day long. Also, I’m pulling my hair up into a top knot and reaching for the comfiest clothes in my closet on a more regular basis. During summer, I want a look that says “look at me! I can take 3 kids to the grocery store AND pick slime out of my carpet in this outfit!” Ya feel me?

On my blog I have created a category dedicated to “The Momiform” which are all kid friendly outfits approved by me, and it’s your one stop shop when you want to look put together but also have your look be easy and comfortable to wear with kids. I also have a Casual category that has outfits that are great with kids or when you just don’t feel like wearing heels.

Today I have rounded up my 5 favorite mom friendly summer outfits that I will be wearing on repeat all summer long…

A T-SHIRT DRESS & SNEAKERS

5 Mom friendly summer outfits you will wear nonstop. Elle Apparel Blog
T-SHIRT DRESS (wearing a size XXS) SIMILAR T-SHIRT DRESS  ||  WHITE SNEAKERS  ||  SIMILAR CROSSBODY BAG  ||  LA DODGERS HAT  ||  GOLD PENDANT NECKLACE  ||  GOLD LAYERED NECKLACE  ||  GOLD LAYERED CHOKER

Throwing on a favorite pair of comfortable white sneakers with a casual t-shirt dress is so versatile. You can comfortably wear it just about anywhere you go with kids, and a dress keeps you cool on hotter days. I also love adding a baseball hat for days when you have to get out the door quickly. Or even, when you plan on being in the sun a lot (like days spent at the park or at an all day event).

A BRIGHT TOP & WHITE JEANS

5 Mom friendly summer outfits you will wear nonstop.
SIMILAR TOP HEREHERE AND HERE  ||  WHITE DISTRESSED JEANS  ||  SIMILAR SANDALS  ||  SUNGLASSES  ||  GOLD LAYERED NECKLACE  ||  GOLD CHOKER

White jeans are a summer staple. I know white jeans for moms may seem like a big N-O. However, they are great for busy moms who need to go from one event to the next easily. This look is also simple and comfortable enough for a mom who spends a lot of time driving her kids to summer camp, swimming lessons, or playdates and wants to look put together (and doesn’t have to worry about getting messy!). White jeans can be dressed up or down. Also, they don’t take a lot of work to style. Add a plain bright colored top or a bold graphic tee to a pair of white distressed jeans for a casual mom style that can easily take you from a playdate to a date night out. I’d just swap these out for normal jeans if there are finger paints or popsicles involved!

A JUMPSUIT & SANDALS

5 Mom friendly summer outfits you will wear nonstop. Jumpsuit
SIMILAR NAVY JUMPSUIT HERE AND HERE  ||  SIMILAR WHITE TOP  ||  SIMILAR SANDALS  ||  SIMILAR SADDLE BAG  ||  SIMILAR SUNGLASSES

A jumpsuit is an easy and comfortable alternative to a dress during the summer. It’s ideal for moms because you can still easily get down on the ground and play with younger kids while wearing a jumpsuit. Also, there are so many different styles that will accommodate just about any event. I love adding a plain white tee under a jumpsuit without sleeves. In addition, throwing on a pair of comfortable sandals for a simple look that I feel good in.

A CASUAL SHIFT DRESS & WEDGES

5 Mom friendly summer outfits you will wear nonstop. COBALT SHIFT DRESS
COBALT SHIFT DRESS (still available in 4 colors!)  ||  SIMILAR WEDGES  ||  SIMILAR STRAW BAG  ||  SIMILAR SUNGLASSES  ||  GOLD LAYERED NECKLACE

The best summer outfits are simple and easy to wear all day. This shift dress was a go-to for me all the time last summer. It’s an ideal choice for moms that don’t want to spend time thinking about what to wear. Just throw it on and go. These wedges are a comfortable shoe choice if you need a more dressed up look. However, this dress would also look cute worn more casually with a pair of white sneakers for moms on the go.

A FLOWY TOP & WIDE LEG PANTS

5 Mom friendly summer outfits you will wear nonstop.SIMILAR WHITE TOP HERE AND HERE  ||  SIMILAR WIDE LEG PANTS HERE AND HERE  ||  SIMILAR LEOPARD SANDALS HERE AND HERE  ||  SIMILAR CROSSBODY BAG  ||  SUNGLASSES (also available here)  ||  SIMILAR WHITE BANDANA  ||  GOLD LAYERED NECKLACE

Wide leg pants are everywhere right now. They are the perfect pants for moms. Also, they are loose, breathable, and comfortable. And there are so many different colors, patterns, and lengths to choose from that you can’t go wrong. Adding a white flutter sleeve top that isn’t restricting and allows you to move around and feel good is just as important. There’s nothing worse than feeling like your clothing is restricting the activities you’re trying to do. Especially with your kids when you have to be ready for anything!

We ordered our Christmas cards this year from Minted, and I am so thrilled with them! They always have the prettiest card options and the quality of their cards is exceptional. This year I looked through all of their different holiday card options before we even shot our pictures for the card, to get an idea of the spacing we needed in the photo to fit the card. I love that Minted’s website allows you to filter all of the different holiday cards by photo orientation, number of photos you want on the card, Christmas, New Year, Religious, etc. I picked the orientation and Christmas card filters first, then loaded the picture I wanted to use into their system. This pulled up all the card options that would fit our image, and gave me a preview of what each card would look like with our image already in the card! It is such a brilliant system, and it really makes selecting our cards go so much faster.

I think my favorite part about using Minted for our holiday cards, is that they have a downloadable address spreadsheet to fill with all your addresses (I keep this on file all year and update it if we have friends/family that move). Then when I order my cards, I can easily upload this document to my order and it prints out all of our addresses on the envelopes! I always forget to order stamps for my cards and end up running to the post office for stamps at the last minute (which is the worst. I hate going to the post office!). So this year I ordered custom stamps from Minted too. I can’t believe what a breeze it was to get all my cards out this year! I opened our Minted box and had Cash help me put on all the stamps and lick the cards and I got them in the mail the SAME day we got the cards! That never happens. I swear Minted thinks of everything.

We shot our family pictures up in Big Bear this year, and I am so happy with how they turned out! I usually switch off between dressing in a formal look and casual each year, and since we were dressed more casual last year, I went with super formal this year. I just die over seeing my boys in their suits! My black dress is one of the prettiest and most intricate black dresses I have ever seen, and it makes for the perfect Christmas dress too. I wore it to church last Sunday and got so many compliments on it. I will be blowing up some of these to hang in our home for sure!

Garrett and I have been taking our boys on a “Polar Express” at Christmas time for the past 4 years now. Every time I mention it on my Instagram I get so many questions about the logistics of this tradition, so I thought it would be fun to share all the details on the blog! We just pick one night in December that falls on a day when the boys don’t have to get up super early the next morning. Some years we do it on a Friday, or wait until they are out for Christmas break. For the first few years we started off the night by watching The Polar Express movie, but honestly…I don’t love the movie. It gets pretty long and doesn’t hold their attention the entire time, so for the past few years we have just read The Polar Express book (I love it so much more this way). We have to start bedtime early this night and try to get them into bed with the lights off around 7:30. Then while we wait for them to all fall asleep, I make hot chocolate and pour it in little containers (Eli gets cold chocolate milk). Then I cut little “golden tickets” with gold/yellow craft paper with each of their initials on them.  At the foot of the stairs or outside their bedroom door, I lay out their shoes, hot chocolate, jackets, and their golden tickets into 3 little piles. Last year Cash ran out of his room and kicked over his hot chocolate and it was a hot mess…so the base of the stairs where they can see it all in advance worked much better for us this year.

Once they are asleep and I have everything set, Garrett starts the car, pulls it to the front of the house, and leaves it running to warm up. Then he turns on a loud train whistle and plays it on speakers or from his phone (he just googles “train whistle” and plays whatever comes up), and he yells “All aboard!,” and then runs and jumps in the car. I help the boys get their clothes on and they have to present their “Golden Ticket” to conductor dad before they can get into the car. Some years Garrett would hole punch their initials into their tickets as they got in the car. Super over the top and extra, and super adorable. Then we play Christmas music in the car while the boys drink/burn their tongues on their hot chocolate, and we drive around and look at the christmas lights for about 30-45 minutes. We have the same Christmas light route that we do every year. In Pasadena there is a huge pink mansion in one of the neighborhoods that completely decks out their entire place with lights. One side of the mansion is all Santa/reindeer, and the other side is a full life-size nativity scene. We get out and walk around all bundled in jammies and coats for the chilly 65 degree LA winter weather.

Basically it is all a fun way to go see Christmas lights, but the boys have come to love and look forward to it each year. This year they knew right away what night it was going to be when we pulled out The Polar Express book, and there was no way they were going to fall asleep (it will probably get harder and harder each year), but they were still just as excited to hear that train whistle. It’s a super simple tradition, but it might be my very favorite. I would definitely recommend trying it with your kids! And there is still time to start it this year! This would also make such a cute gift for a grandparent to give or for a family gift, with the book, golden tickets, and some packets of hot chocolate and mugs!

From our family to yours, we want to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving! We traveled up to Big Bear last weekend for a little getaway for Garrett’s birthday, and we had the best time! We stayed at a darling Bed and Breakfast right by the lake called The Alpenhorn. We haven’t stayed at a bed and breakfast before, and we absolutly loved it! Johann and Evelyn where the kindest couple who run the BnB, and they made us feel right at home. Since we brought the kids, we stayed in our own cozy cabin with a kitchen, plenty of beds, a jetted tub (which the boys loved), and a fireplace! We watched movies and fell asleep by the fire each night, and it was such a dream.

Every morning the owners made the most magnificent breakfast in the main house. I’m not kidding…it was one of the best breakfast meals I have ever had! Hand squeezed local oranges for orange juice, ancient grain homemade berry scones, herbed heirloom tomatoes, an omelette, and the best overnight oats I have ever had. We ate this every single morning! We started off our day with a full tummy and ready for hikes and exploring. All around Big Bear lake there are little hiking trails that you can pull off and hike up. Make sure to stop by any ski rental building and pick up a few days worth of parking passes (they are good for any of the hiking parking lots in the area). They are around $13 per day.

If you are on the hunt for something yummy for lunch, I recommend stopping at a tiny little “Hawaiian” lunch spot called Local. I got their Papaya Bowl, and Garrett and I split one of their rice bowls; it was divine! On main street in Big Bear they have the cutest ice cream shops, and we stopped at one for ice cream cones and candy apples one of the nights.

We even checked out the local Big Bear zoo they have there in the mountains. I was a little bit skeptical of it at first, but it was actually amazing and well worth a family visit! They had cougars, tons of black bears, a bald eagle, a snow owl, and tons of other animals that were local to the area. You can get really close to the animals too, and the boys loved it!

We have a lot to be thankful for this year. We are so excited to be moving into our new home shortly, and we have lots to do to prepare for that. I just want to make sure I take the time to really soak in this season and stop long enough to enjoy my blessings, enjoy my kids, and pause to really feel the spirit of this season. I hope you all have the best Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for following along!

3 THINGS I’M DOING TO PREP FOR OUR MOVE

3 Tips for moving to a new home. 3 Tips for moving to a new home. 3 Tips for moving to a new home. 3 Tips for moving to a new home. 3 Tips for moving to a new home. 3 Tips for moving to a new home.

We are moving into a new house next month, which means we are super busy packing, cleaning, and prepping for the move. One of the first things I do when I move into a new house is stock up on all the household cleaning supplies I will need. I always like to give the new house a really good cleaning before we are officially moved in so that I know it’s spic and span. I love that jet.com carries all the household cleaning products I have on my list, and they deliver them all to my doorstep in two days. It’s a bonus that their packaging looks just as good as their products work! It’s been my life saver, and my one stop shop for getting out new house prepped for the big move in day!

Since life is literally crazy with all we have going on right now (we are moving in the middle of the busiest season of the year!), I thought I would share three things that have been helpful for me throughout this moving process:

1. Cleaning our new place before we start moving in. This is one of the first things that needs to get done to give me some sanity! Without this step complete, we can’t start bringing all of our stuff over to the new house. With so little time and so much to do, jet.com has come to my cleaning rescue. Jet launched a new brand called Uniquely J, and I have been really happy with the quality of their cleaning supplies. They are free from harsh chemicals, which I love, and they are really good at getting surfaces clean without leaving streaks or dust behind. I’ve been using this fragrance free glass cleaner for my mirrors, and these cleaning wipes for just about everything! This all purpose cleaning spray has been amazing for cleaning the kitchen counters, and it smells so good.

2. Numbering my boxes. Instead of just writing what is in each box, I assign each room a number and label each box accordingly. This is so helpful when you have friends and family helping you move. It’s such a nightmare when all your boxes are put into the same room and you have to literally re-move all the boxes to get them into the right place. So this system keeps things simple and organized.

3. Decluttering before the move! I have been working really hard on getting rid of broken toys, donating household items we don’t use anymore, and purging my closet. If we haven’t used it since our last move, it goes! I love making a new home a fresh start, so it’s important to make this move as clutter free as possible.

We have a lot of busy weeks ahead of us with this move, but we are so excited for our new home. I’m looking forward to having everything clean and unpacked so that I can start to work on the organization and decoration with our new space! I can’t wait to share more details in the weeks and months to come.

A few weekends ago we took the boys to a pumpkin patch down in LA for a little family outing. California is still boycotting fall, so aside from crisp fall temperatures, the boys had a blast picking out pumpkins, jumping in the jump houses, and petting the animals at the petting zoo. Eli was so sad that he couldn’t go on some of the big boy jump houses, but we found one that was just his size and he camped out there for a good 30 minutes.

If any of you are on the hunt for some cute kids fall clothes for pictures at the pumpkin patch, or with family picture season fast approaching, I found some really cute ones at Nordstrom by Tucker and Tate. They make such great basic tops and bottoms with simple cute designs. I bought some of their pajamas for our Christmas jammies from Nordstrom last year, and the quality was fantastic! They held their shape and lasted us wear after wear through the entire year. Tucker and Tate is one of my favorite kids brands because they understand how to make stylish clothing for kids that is durable and well made. I also love that Nordstrom carries their line, so I know I always get free shipping, great customer service, and free returns to make my purchase easy and stress free.

THE BEST BABY PRODUCT FOR TREATING ECZEMA-PRONE SKIN (+ OUR BABY LOTION TRADITION)

My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin My favorite baby lotion for treating eczema-prone skin

After bath time with my oldest son years ago, we would always play a fun little game as I applied his baby lotion. He would lay down and from up above him I would squeeze tiny drops of baby lotion onto his tummy as he squealed and clapped his hands. I’d cover his tummy in lotion drops and then say “rub! rub! rub!,” and I rubbed in all the lotion. It became a fun little lotion tradition that he would look forward to every night. I did the same thing with Cash, and have done the same thing with Eli! (It’s especially hilarious when all three of them are lined up laying on the ground and I just drop a million tiny lotion drops all over them; so funny).

I’ve never had an issue with my babies having eczema except for Eli. If you remember a few months back on my insta stories, I showed you guys the red dry patches he was getting on his cheeks. They would be so red, and sometimes crack, and it made me feel so bad! I tried so many suggestions of different creams and lotions, and while some of them kept it at bay for a day or so, it kept on popping back up. I’ve been partnering with Mustela USA for a while now, and I am such a fan of their products. I asked them if I could try their eczema line to see if it would do the trick. The Stelatopia Emollient Balm for Eczema-Prone skin got rid of the red eczema spots on Eli’s cheeks completely! It just made me an even bigger fan of Mustela! This balm is super thick, and I rubbed it into his cheeks every night for a few weeks, and it finally went away. Before writing this post I wanted to use this balm for a longer period of time to make sure that it was 100% effective.

I still use it once a week or so, and I am happy to report that his red spots haven’t come back in months, and I am so grateful! During bathtime, I’ve also been using the Stelatopia Cleansing Cream and the Stelatopia Bath Oil, and I love how they cleanse and soothe Eli’s skin at the same time while keeping his eczema at bay. They also have an Emollient Cream that is a lighter texture that I like as a daily body lotion. Many of you asked me to report back on this product and I am happy to say that it works too! I highly recommend using the full line it if your babies struggle with Eczema-prone skin. The best part is that it’s full of natural ingredients like avocado perseose and sunflower oil that protect, moisturize, and soothe baby skin. I love that Mustela has safe effective products that are tailored to specific skin types!

ELI’S 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTY

Last month I threw a 2nd birthday party for Eli at the Southern California Children’s Museum in Pasadena. It was so much fun to get all our friends together and celebrate him! I have to be honest though, I had been planning on throwing a banana themed birthday party for his first birthday, and that never happened. I felt so guilty that he never got a big birthday party, so I decided to just go for it for his 2nd birthday.

I found the cutest banana print wallpaper from Walls Need Love, and the print was almost identical to some banana print moccasins from Freshly Picked I had seen, and I couldn’t get the idea of a banana party out of my head. To create the banana backdrop, I just stuck the strips of removable wallpaper onto a giant piece of thick muslin (it was about 6×10 ft). It was so easy to apply. I hung it with some string and a few command hooks to the wall, and it made for the perfect backdrop! I found Eli’s cute banana tee on Amazon so he could be totally decked out in bananas. For the food I ordered a tiny yellow cake from a local grocery store, grabbed a giant box of uncrustables PB&J sandwiches from Costco, a big bag of chips and veggies, juice boxes, and called it good! I wanted to keep it very easy and very kid friendly.

The best decision I made for the party was to have it at the Southern California Children’s Museum. It’s super close to us, and I love taking the kids there on hot summer days. I reserved it for a big group of friends, and it was the most stress free party I have ever thrown! They had two amazing workers there to help me with set up, take down, and anything the kids might have needed while playing. The play space is huge, and they have so many fun play stations for the kids. They have a giant slide, a big ball pit, a “lemonade stand,” a small stage with buckets full of costumes, a pretend grocery store and dinner table, pretend snow to play with, and so many other fun kid stations that let them have fun and use their imaginations. If you are in the LA area and want a fun place to take the kids on a hot day, or are looking for a great party venue for a lot of kids, I highly recommend this children’s museum.

Buying shoes that will last my boys for back to school is really important. My boys are active and always moving, so I need shoes that will handle all that crazy and not give out after a few weeks! I love getting cute athletic shoes for the boys to wear to school, and these Nikes from Rack Room Shoes were the perfect choice for the boys. They are quality shoes that are reliable, and the boys can actually run around in them because thats what they were made for! These shoes are definitely worth the investment in my opinion because of their durability, and they easily work with any kind of outfits the boys will be wearing. And of course, I can never resist any time I get the chance to match my boys in a cute pair of shoes! I snagged my own pair from Rack Room Shoes too! I’ve got to be able to keep up with the boys too, and these shoes are great for running to and from school in for drop off and pick up. I can wear them casually, or easily slip them on with jeans and a cute top too.

Their backpacks were both to small and worn out after last year, so I let them pick their favorite color from these Nike backpacks from Rack Room Shoes (did you know they carried school gear too?). They felt so proud walking into school on their first day with these backpacks! There is even a front pocket that fits their lunch boxes perfectly. Maybe I’m super weird, but I get the biggest kick out of that! The perfect spot for their lunch, folders, water bottle, Pokemon cards, legos, dead lizards, you know..all the essentials (the dead lizard is a true story). I love sending my boys off to school knowing they have the right gear that will keep up with them and I love that Rack Room Shoes has these essentials! If your kids go to a school that requires uniforms, Rack Room Shoes also has footwear that would be compliant with uniforms as well!
